Richard Wilson recites my poem:
“SANZ BRIZ AND SMILE IN THE ABYSS OF TIME”
about the Spanish diplomat Ángel Sanz Briz, who saved 5,200 Jews in Budapest in 1944. – The poem is my first work in the style of new suprarealism.

I WAS BORN

I was born
for a poem
we always
longed to hear,

when trees
slipped beetles
beneath our cortex
and told us the world
was wider
than we believed.

Curled up on my bed
I played softly,
while almond trees
sent sharp fragrance
across my dreams,

and the poem
began to root
deep within me,

as the trees,
so full of knowing,
lured me
with their branches.

but that’s
a long story,
my friend —

so stop by,
I’ll tell you with music
or over good coffee

   in quiet glances...

Variace na Tzaru

Jan Škrdlík – Variations on Tzara • The Son-of-a-Narcissist-Mother’s Guide Book
←   Samples from the texts

Based on an imaginary journey from planet Earth to the "Seventh Heaven," I reunite with five women who most profoundly influenced my past life, and then with my current partner, Jana Rosia. Yet, I need to penetrate even higher realms to finally connect with my Essential Self...

The title "Variations on Tzara" arose from the fact that each of her poems begins with a quotation of a verse from the poetry collection "L’Homme approximatif," thus paying tribute to its author, Tristan Tzara.

The subtitle of this verse novel refers to my experience with a narcissistic mother. Unconsciously, I carried her as a pattern for choosing later life partners in adulthood. It took a long journey to break free from this toxic vicious circle…
---------------------------------------

2016 – 2024   The work crystallized starting in 2016. However, I wrote the vast majority of the poems during the first three months of 2020. The creation of the English version by the translation team of Thomas McComb between 2020 and 2024 inspired me to make further changes and additions, so the presented version of the novel dates to 2024.

Variations on Tzara     ← Excerpts from the Spanish version of “Variations on Tzara”. This version began to take shape immediately after the Czech edition was completed. However, it is not a translation of the “original Czech.” The collection lives its own life in this new language. Some of the verses differ from the Czech version—just as the living Spanish language naturally leads them to. I can afford this freedom. After all, I’m the author. :-)
In fact, since 2016, when the foundations of this work were laid, I’ve written some poems in both languages, although most of the collection was originally recorded in Czech. The creation of the English version by Thomas McComb’s translation team between 2020 and 2024 inspired me to revise and expand the Spanish version as well, so the version presented here dates from 2024.
